Sufganiyah
(Hebrew: סופגנייה or סופגניה; plural, sufganiyot: סופגניות, read
soof-gah-nee-ah, soof-gah-nee-oht) is a round jelly donut eaten in Israel and
the rest of the world on Hanukkah Jewish feasts. The donut is fried soaked,
filled with jam or custard, and then sprinkled with powdered sugar. On the day
of Hanukkah, the Jews celebrated the habit of eating fried food to commemorate
the miracles attributed to the temple oil.
