Malawach or
malawah (Hebrew: מלאווח or מלווח) is a fried toast that is a dish of Yemeni
Jews.
Through Yemenite Jewish
immigration to Israel, the dish becomes a favorite food for Israelis from all
backgrounds and country origins, Malawah frozen can be used instead of dough in
various recipes.
Malawach has a similarity in
presentation, taste and texture with malawax from Somalia where it is usually
eaten with honey on the weekend. The dish is also similar to parotta (also
known as Kerala paratha) from South India and Lachha paratha from North India,
both of which are lined with flat bread famous in Indian cuisine.
