Mahón is
a Spanish cheese made with pasteurized cow's milk. This cheese comes from
Minorca which is one of the islands of the Balearic Islands and the name of
Mahón cheese is taken from the name of the regional capital.
The shape of this cheese is
a rectangle with a curved edge. The skin is bright orange that is produced not
from bacteria but because it is smeared with butter, peppers and oil.
At first, Mahón cheese was
made using sheep's milk. After the arrival of British colonists in the 18th
century before cow's milk began to be used. This cheese is sold in different
stages of maturation.
