Blue
Vinny or also known as Blue Vinney Dorset is a blue cheese
that comes from the Dorset region in England made with raw cow's milk. In 1982,
Mike Davies brought back this cheese that had been forgotten. The word
"vinny" in old English means "to be moldy".
The blue color of this
cheese comes from the penicillin fungus despite rumors saying that the blue
color comes from old leather boots placed next to the barrel of this cheese.
Rumors are created because the mushrooms that exist on Blue Vinny cheese is
also found on leather boots that are aging. When making this cheese, penicillin
mushrooms are added directly to the milk.
