Bel Paese is a cheese from the Lombardy region of Italy
made with cow's milk. This cheese was first made by Egidio Galbani who named
his cheese creation based on a book titled Bel Paese by Anthonio Stoppani.
The term
bell paese has the meaning of "beautiful land" and was once used by
Dante to dub the Italian state. This cheese has a color like ivory and has a
sweet taste.
The original
Italian Bel Paese cheese has a picture of a priest and an Italian map on the
packaging while Bel Paese cheese made in the United States has an American map.
This cheese has in common with the Saint Paulin cheese and can be used as a
substitute for Mozzarella cheese.
