Vlaai, better known as Limburgse vlaai, is a pie or tart
consisting of pastry and stuffing. Vlaai is usually 27-30 cm in diameter.
Originally vlaai was created in Weert, Limburg and therefore also known as
Weertervlaai.

This is a typical product of the south
of the Netherlands, but is now generally available throughout the country and
in parts of Belgium and Germany near the Dutch border.

Available varies with different fruit
fillings (cherries, apricots, strawberries, plums, etc.), crushed butter and
sugar mix ("kruimelvlaai"), rice and pudding porridge
("rijstevlaai"). Vlaai is also known for being thinner than a normal
pie and also gives a bit of crispness.
