Simpur,
sempur, or sempu are common names for Dillenia genera, Dilleniaceae. A total of
about 60 plant species are in the form of trees, shrubs or shrubs, spreading
from Madagascar and the Seychelles Islands in the west, north to the Himalayas
and southern China, across Southeast Asia and Australasia, to Fiji in the east.
The genus is named after the
German botany, Johann Jacob Dillenius (1687-2 April 1747). Names in other
countries, among them: simpor (Brunei, Pontianak, Sabah); zinbyum, mai-masan
(Burma); san, masan (Thailand); san (Cambodia); katmon (Philippines).
