Medianoche
(pronounced
[meðjanotʃe]; "midnight" in Spanish) is a kind of sandwich or
sandwich that comes from Cuba. It is presented in many Cuban communities in the
United States. Named so because of the popularity of sandwiches as the staple
food served at the Havana nightclub just around or after midnight.
The medianoche consists of
roast pork, ham, mustard, Swiss cheese, and dill pickle. This is a cousin near
the Cuban sandwich, the main difference being that the medianoche is made from
bread that uses a soft and sweet egg dough similar to Challahs rather than the
crispy Cuban bread. Like a Cuban sandwich, the medianoche is usually warmed in
a toaster before meals.
