Aichmophobia
(derived
from the Greek aichmo which means spear and phobos which means fear) is an
exaggerated and irrational fear of sharp objects, such as needles. Symptoms
contained in this phobia sufferer include heart palpitations, shortness of
breath, dizziness, nausea, trembling and sweating.
This phobia can occur
because of a combination of an event or underlying phenomenon, biological,
genetic and environmental conditions of a person. Treatment depends on the
severity of this phobia. Treatment may include counseling, hypnosis or
medication.
