Gudeg (Javanese spelling: gudheg) is a typical food of Yogyakarta and Central Java made of young jackfruit cooked with coconut milk. It takes hours to make this dish. Brown colour is usually produced by teak leaves cooked simultaneously. Gudeg ate with rice and served with thick coconut milk (areh), chicken, eggs, tofu and sambal goreng krecek.
There are various variants gudeg, among others:
- Gudeg dry, ie gudeg which is served with thick areh, much more viscous than coconut milk in Padang cuisine.
- Gudeg wet, ie gudeg which is served with a watery areh.
- Gudeg Solo, the gudeg that arehnya white.
